About the project

This project is part of our Suburban Corridor Modernisation program which aims to increase safety for active road users across Brisbane’s suburban road corridors and the surrounding catchments to these roads.

We have worked closely with key stakeholders and local schools to investigate concerns within the corridor and identify suitable treatments to improve safety for people walking, riding and driving through the area.

As part of the decision-making process for this project, a number of factors were considered to ensure the project balances the needs of the community and improves overall network efficiency, visibility and safety along this corridor.

Improvements that have been completed along Curragundi Road include:

  • splitter islands to improve pedestrian crossing points and improve road safety
  • relocating a pedestrian refuge and bus stop
  • installing line marking
  • upgrading kerb buildouts
  • minor turfing and landscaping works.

Zebra crossing on Curragundi Road near Arrabri Avenue

Council is investigating improvement options for the zebra crossing on Curragundi Road near Arrabri Avenue. A speed limit reduction to 40 km/h has been implemented on approach to the crossing while investigations are underway. This speed reduction allows people walking, riding and driving with more time to safely assess the crossing. Road users must follow the direction of signage during this time. A temporary streetlight has also been installed to improve visibility at the crossing.

Project timing

Works to install various treatments along Curragundi started in mid-April 2024 and are now complete. Council is now investigating improvement options for the zebra crossing on Curragundi Road near Arrabri Avenue and will provide an update to the community ahead of any further works.
