Improved access, safety and amenity for all road users

Latest update

We would like to thank the community for participating in our online survey, which was open from 22 November 2024 to 19 January 2025. The feedback about your experiences walking, riding and driving along Wilston Road, between Newmarket Road and Mina Parade is being assessed and will be used in conjunction with our technical analysis to create a potential plan for the area.

About the project

We are pleased to advise funding was allocated within Council’s 2024-25 Budget to progress early investigations and community engagement for improvements along Wilston Road, between Newmarket Road and Mina Parade.

Council’s Suburban Corridor Modernisation projects identify practical options to improve access, safety and amenity along suburban streets for people walking, riding and driving. This program focuses on minor works to improve intersections, pedestrian crossing points, visibility and encourage slower and safer vehicle movements.

We asked the community about their experiences walking, riding and driving along Wilston Road via an online survey, which was open from 22 November 2024 to 19 January 2025.

Your feedback is being assessed and will be used in conjunction with our technical analysis to create a potential plan for the area.

Future construction will be dependent on future budget allocation and city-wide priorities.

Open level rail crossing

Changes to the open level crossing between Murrell Street and Mina Parade are outside of the scope of this project as this is a Queensland Government asset.

Council implemented a right-turn restriction from Wilston Road into Murrell Street between 7am-7pm in July 2022 to address safety concerns about vehicles queueing across the open level crossing.

Investigations on other sections of Wilston Road

Wilston Road, between Mina Parade and Daisy Street

Council investigated this area in response to community feedback about pedestrian footpath connectivity in 2023. While there are no changes planned at this time, improvements to this part of the corridor will be investigated in future.

Wilston Road, between Days Road and Raymont Road

Council engaged with residents and implemented a right-turn restriction from Raymont Road into Wilston Road between 7-9am, Monday to Friday in March 2024. Future changes are not proposed for this section of road.
