Monthly construction update - CBD

September 2024

Construction activities in September will include:

  • continued works in the CBD site compound, including concrete pours, pavement installation and landscaping
  • continued construction of the above-water restaurant and bar and riverside café
  • installation of the lift for the above-water restaurant
  • removal of the remaining temporary structures from the Brisbane River
  • bridge works including balustrade and canopy installation and line marking
  • testing and commissioning works.

What to expect

  • construction activities including excavation, welding, scaffolding and concreting works
  • barge movements for bridge works
  • noise and low levels of vibration from equipment and machinery such concrete pumps and trucks
  • lighting associated with night works
  • deliveries of machinery and equipment to the CBD site
  • traffic control and signage to direct pedestrians, cyclists, scooter riders and motorists around work areas as required
  • path closures:
    • City Botanic Gardens Riverwalk until late September 2024 (access to River Hub maintained)
    • north-eastern footpath between the Naval Offices and the Edward Street and Alice Street signalised crossing to install new pavers.

City Botanic Gardens access during the Brisbane Festival Lightscape event, 26 August - 12 October 2024

The Edward Street gate and Albert Street gate to the City Botanic Gardens will have varied opening times. The:

  • Edward Street gate will be open from 3.30pm to 5am daily
  • Albert Street gate will be open from 5am to 3.30pm daily.

Out-of-hours works

Intermittent out-of-hours works will include (weather and conditions permitting):

  • concrete pours from the CBD site from 3am, Monday to Saturday
  • pavement installation in the CBD site between 6.30pm and 6.30am, Monday to Saturday
  • some night deliveries to the CBD worksite between 6.30pm and 6.30am, Monday to Saturday to minimise impacts to road users
  • low-impact bridge works including the removal of temporary marine structures, restaurant works, welding, painting, canopy works, transporting equipment and materials on barges from 5am–11pm, Monday to Saturday
  • low-impact bridge works over the Brisbane River navigation channel until 5am, Monday to Saturday.
