2023-24 Road Resurfacing program

Brisbane City Council’s 2023-24 road resurfacing program will help make suburban streets smoother, safer and more enjoyable to use every day. Council will be undertaking works across every Council ward to help residents get home sooner and safer.

About the program

Council's $360 million Smoother Suburban Streets program is delivering road resurfacing projects over four years. This historic investment will deliver an unprecedented number of resurfacing projects for Brisbane and ensure our city's transport network continues to deliver a high quality experience for users.

Our roads are one of our most critical assets, which is why Council continues to prioritise their maintenance.

If you believe your street requires resurfacing, phone Council on 07 3403 8888 for Council’s City Standards team to investigate your request.

Vehicle relocation

Under the Public Land and Council Assets Local Law 2014 section 36, Council may relocate a vehicle if it is directly impacting access to the resurfacing works, the ability to divert traffic to access the works, or there is reasonable chance of damage to the vehicle by working in close proximity.

To avoid the relocation of vehicles, Council notifies residents and motorists in advance of works occurring.

Any vehicle that is parked on the road when works are scheduled to occur will be relocated to facilitate the works. Find out if your vehicle has been relocated.

Construction impacts

Council is committed to keeping local residents informed of construction activity in their area and will provide advance notification of activities likely to cause disruption during the resurfacing works.

Temporary inconveniences experienced during the resurfacing works may include:

  • noise and dust from construction equipment
  • limited or no access for through traffic during construction
  • no on-street parking in the work zone during construction hours
  • detours around the limits of the project
  • short delays to local residential access while drivers are escorted through the works zone to their property.

Road resurfacing requires a number of stages in order to achieve a high quality outcome. As works progress, information will be provided to keep local residents informed of progress and upcoming works.

Major lane closures will be undertaken outside of peak traffic times, however some delays may still be experienced.

Where necessary, traffic controllers will be on site to assist motorists through the worksites. Pedestrian detours may also be required. Signage and traffic controllers will be in place when required.

The use of heavy machinery and large vehicles will be required. To avoid damage to private vehicles, it is advisable to avoid parking vehicles within the vicinity of the works.

Council is committed to minimising the impact of the works on the community as much as possible.  We would like to thank local residents and business owners for their patience and understanding during these important works to improve the safety and efficiency of Brisbane’s road network.

Out-of-hours works

To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers and to minimise traffic disruptions, some work is required to be undertaken at night or weekends when traffic volumes are lowest.

Traffic controllers and signage will be in place to direct motorists and pedestrians. Motorists may experience some traffic delays and local detours may be required during the work.

Properties in close proximity to the work may experience some construction noise, low levels of vibration and increased lighting. Due to workplace health and safety requirements, reversing beepers cannot be switched off.
