About the project

We are installing 6 new lights along the shared pathway in Fig Tree Point Park, which forms part of the Moreton Bay Cycleway.

This work will extend existing pathway lighting in Fig Tree Point Park to improve visibility for people walking and riding between Outram Street and Coolana Street in Lota.

The project is jointly funded by Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants program.

Project benefits

The Moreton Bay Cycleway is a popular active travel corridor along the bayside, and extending this lighting in Fig Tree Point Park is part of our commitment to help keep path users and our community safe.

The pathway lighting works will improve public safety and visibility for people walking and riding in our parks and pathways.

Project details

As part of this project, works will involve:

  • open trenching, tunnel boring and vacuum excavation to install light pole foundations, conduits and electrical pits
  • installation of LED luminaires and poles
  • electrical cable works and turfing.

The lighting will be activated once connected to the power supply by Energex in the weeks following installation.

Project timing

Works are expected to start early April 2025 and by complete in mid-May, weather and site conditions permitting. These works will generally take place from 7am to 5pm, between Monday to Saturday.

What to expect during construction

Residents and park users near this section of pathway may notice:

  • deliveries of machinery, equipment and materials to site
  • construction vehicle movements with reversing alarms and flashing lights
  • construction noise.

There may be intermittent short-term delays for pathway users while work is underway for each new pole. Where required, traffic control will be in place to manage stop and go traffic flow on the path to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and workers.

We value your patience and cooperation while we undertake this important work.

Site laydown

During construction, a site laydown area will be established within Fig Tree Point Park, to temporarily store materials, equipment and machinery.
